The tenth annual PMC Film Festival is this Saturday, May 15th. The reception begins at 6:00 PM in VA-184. It IS a potluck, so be sure to bring food! We'll have cameras on hand to record the event for future generations of the PMC.

The festival begins at 7:30 in VA-113, and remember, we will have 10th Anniversary PMC Film Festival Commemorative Sketchbooks on hand for those of you that pre-ordered them, and there are still some left for purchase!

In celebration of Arts Week here at Cal State Fullerton, Doug TenNapel, creator of Cat Scratch, Neverhood, Earthworm Jim, and others, is coming to CSUF Wednesday, April 14th at 7PM. The event will be held at the Ruby Gerontology Center, so please consult the attached map to find it, as it's tucked away near the dorms.

But that's not all!! The PMC will also be holding a BBQ from 4PM - 6:30PM in front of the dorms, which is walking distance from RGC13. The only caveat is that you have to bringsomething - drinks, chips, cookies, etc. - to get a delicious hamburger or hot dog.

CSUF alumni Larissa Marantz is holding her first major exhibition in LA beginning today. MANIFESTEQUALITY is being described as a gathering of the nation’s most talented visual artists under one roof to bring awareness of equality, justice, civil rights, love, respect and unity. It is a celebration of equal rights for all Americans, with no exceptions.

Wednesday, March 3rd, 2010 through Sunday, March 7th, 2010 between the hours of 10:00 AM—6:00 PM with extended hours Friday—Sunday.

Wednesday evening IS NOT open to the public. If you are planning on attending ion Wednesday evening, please plan on attending during the daytime hours.

Blizzard Entertainment will be here this Thursday, February 25th, at 1 PM in the Alvarado Room in TSU. That's the same spot the Autodesk panel was, for those of you who went.

As has been stated, only VGDC and PMC members may attend this event. However, PMC members may bring one guest (come at the same time, your guest must be present upon entrance). If you don't know a PMC member, consider joining! It's only $25 a semester and you get access to all our cool events, such as tours, life drawing nights, and events like this one.

The 10th Anniversary Fullerton Film Festival Presents: Sketchbooks!

In honor of ten years of the Fullerton Film Festival and The Bomb, the PMC is issuing a limited-edition commemorative sketchbook. This book will include a short history of the club as well as a selection of sketchbook pages from PMC members past and present. There are only 300 copies available, so grab one while they last!

Books will run $27, or $32 if you can't pick it up in person (more on that in a minute). $5 of each book goes toward finding a cure for Machado-Josephs disease, in honor of Mike Williams, our first club president, who is battling the disease.

Books will be available for pick-up during the Film Festival.

Feel Good Film Festival, now accepting entries for 2010

Film Festival and PMC Gallery Submissions

As you may have heard, it's that time of year to begin submitting work to the Film Festival and Gallery.

The deadline for submissions is Wednesday, March 31st, 2010. We will not be accepting any films or artwork after this date.

Anyone is free to submit a film to the festival, but PMC members will be given priority. Only animated shorts may be submitted; no live action, please.

When submitting a film, please adhere to the following guidelines for your shorts:

Format: QuickTime

Resolution: 720x480

Pixel ratio: 0.9 (not square!)

Framerate: 29.97

Please submit your movie file on a DVD or CD along with an entry form:

Note: If you are submitting a bomb, please also attach a printed frame from your bomb so we will be able to identify it.

As for the Gallery, only PMC members may submit artwork. Pieces must be mounted - sorry, we cannot print/mount anything for you.

Please try and submit your things early; both the Gallery and Festival may fill up before the deadline.

Animation at the Oscars: 2010 Edition

What a great start to the year, with "Up" getting not only a Best Animated Film nomination, but also the 2nd Best Picture nomination for an animated film ever.

Rounding out the Best Animated Film category are "Coraline", "Princess and the Frog", "The Secret of Kells", and "The Fantastic Mr. Fox".

Up for Best Animated Short are "French Roast", "Granny O'Grimm's Sleeping Beauty", "The Lady and the Reaper:, "Logorama", and Wallace and Gromit's "A Matter of Loaf and Death".

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, as part of its week long "Perspectives on Editing" event, will be holding a seminar on editing for Animation this Tuesday, September 29th. Guests will include Kent Beyda ("Alien Nation", "Scooby Doo"), John Carnochan ("Ice Age, "The Simpsons Movie"), Nancy Frazen ("Runaway Brain", "Surf's Up"), Lois Freeman-Fox ("Fantasia 2000", "Osmosis Jones"), and Kevin Nolting ("Up"), among others.

CTN Animation Expo

CTN-X is from November 20-22, 2009. Students can also sign up to volunteer (which gets you into the workshops for free).

The Marshall Vandruff Sketchbook Show

This Thursday at Mt Sac College Marshall Vandruff will be showing over 100 slides on the value of keeping a sketchbook. It’s at 2pm, and it’s free.

At 4pm there will be a show of personal work - Marshall's as well as some of his former students. He'll have over seventy original pages on display, including some of Justin Sweet's original watercolors.

Drawing Challenge September 2009

This month's drawing challenge is pretty simple. "Where's Waldo?" It's up to you!

Submissions are due on the 30th.

On a more serious note, we'll be starting something new this time around: the Drawing Challenge is going 21st century! What that really means is that you'll have to scan or photography your entry (please, no webcams/cellphone cams) and email it to us by the deadline. If your file is already digital (Photoshop, 3D, etcetera), even better! Just save or render the file as a JPEG or PNG and email it to us.

Saturday, September 5th: The Art of "9"

Next Saturday, come see the production art behind Focus Features animated feature "9". Three and a half years in the making, "9" was an international production pooling talented artists from Europe, Canada and the US. The show highlights the production from early concepts to final frames including the art of noted artists George Hull, Patrick Awa, Kevin Chen, Khang Le and Bruno Gentile.

Film Festival + Gallery, Life Drawing, and more

The deadline for the film festival and gallery is tomorrow, Wednesday, May 6. Pick up a form at the meeting, or if you can't make it, leave it in Amy's or Brien's drawer with some sort of inclination of whose art it is (name, phone #/email, etc.). The gallery is for members only, but anyone can enter the festival. Pencil tests, finished animation, or anything inbetween. We accept anything as long as it's animated.

Tomorrow is also LIFE DRAWING night! It's in VA160 starting at 7:30. Non-members must pay $5 (this is why you should join!).

The festival and gallery both take place on May 16th. See you tomorrow!

Just a friendly reminder that if you plan on taking a summer internship, now is the time to get your reels/cover letters out to the studio(s) you plan on submitting to.

Some of the larger studios will be attending the Art 495 Open Portfolio Review. If you aren't enrolled, you may still participate after those who are enrolled are finished.

PMC Film Festival '09 - Submission Info

The 9th annual film festival is coming up this May! We'll be accepting submissions after spring break, at the April 8th meeting. Submission requirements are as follows:

Please submit your film/short as a quicktime movie with the following settings:

Resolution: 720x480 pixels (4:3)

Compression: DV NTSC

Pixel ratio: 0.9

Framerate: 29.97fps

Films can be submitted on DVD/CD during the meetings. If you can't make a meeting, contact Amy or another officer and we will work something out.

The last day for submissions is midnight, May 6th. NO EXCEPTIONS.

Due to spring break, there will be no meeting next Wednesday, April 1st.

Chet Zar Presentation

Chet is coming out to our school on March 13th at 7 PM in Room VA 113 to tell us a bit about what he does and how he got there. Chet is a special effects make up artist, designer and sculptor for the motion picture industry, and has designed and created creatures and make up effects effects for such films as, "The Ring", "Hellboy", "Planet of the Apes" and the critically acclaimed music videos for the art metal band, Tool.

Disney Feature Animation, Movie Night, + Other PMC Updates

Disney feature animation will be here on Wednesday, March 18th at 10AM, in VA113 (the big lecture hall).

That same week, the 18th-24th, is CSU Arts Week. We'll be putting on plenty of events - expect an announcement on what we'll be doing (and when) soon.

We've added a second movie to Movie Night! In addition to the cinematic masterpiece "Muppet Treasure Island" we'll be watching some movie called "Apocalypse Now".

Lastly, be sure to email us those Drawing Challenge submissions! They're due on the day of the meeting this Wednesday, so be sure to turn them in and join us at the meeting to get this months topic.

Wednesday, October 15th- Life Drawing!! We've decided on a Costume theme, being that Hallween is so near. There will be no
nude model for this one, just so you guys know. Everyone who comes will get the chance to be the model, Yay! Don't be scared,
the clothes don't have to come off!!! Bring your favorite costume, mask, light saber, bloody knife (not a real on tho!), and take turns
drawing your fellow classmates in costume!

In addition, this year we'll have a booth at Discoverfest - September 3rd and 4th - as well, so be sure to check us out!

And now for something completely different... the monthly challenge!

Each month, we'll give you a topic to draw (no pun intended) inspiration from. Use whatever medium you're comfortable with and show us what you've got! Two winners each month will get a nice prize package from the club. This months, we've got a $30 gift card to Art Supply Warehouse, some PMC swag, and a movie up for grabs for each of the lucky winners. You have until September 30th (that's over a month!) to convey your interpretation of the theme; this month's theme is

"...And there was no spoon."

Take your best shot. We'll announce the winners on October 15th, along with October's theme. Please keep in mind that if you're not a member, you'll have to hand over $5 along with your entry. If you are a member, don't worry about it. (Club membership is only $40, wink wink.)
